Dirt to Dirt Cliffs
Now, there's stacked cliffs, but what about when you just want it to be like a mountain, not just the cliff face stacked on top of itself over and over, but have some ground in between each cliff rise? That's where you want Dirt to Dirt Cliffs. Cliffs that go up, and rather than going to high dirt, they go to dirt once again, allowing for a set of cliffs on that dirt. This tutorial will teach how to make those. Using SCM Draft 2, which can be found in the Programs section.
Step 1:
Create a cliff, make it as large as you want, I'm just showing the basics in this tutorial, so all I need is a small sample, like the one below.
Step 2:
Make some water, just try to get as many different underwater cliff faces as possible, which happens to be five at each angle.
Notice how there is an identical cliff face? Well we need to top of the water, which while it's also dry, it has dirt instead of high dirt on top.
Step 3:
Copy the top of the water that matches up with the dry cliff face, as shown below.
Step 4:
Paste that cliff top over the peices that it matches up to on the dry cliff, as shown below.
Oh, and there IS a difference between these two cliff faces, make sure you don't confuse the two.
You may notice that some cliff faces don't have an underwater match, like the one selected below.
To solve this problem, simply select one of your other cliff faces and pase it over the matchless one, as shown below.
For the other sides, you just need to make more water from a different angle and do the same thing, as shown below.
Step 5:
Now it's time to fix the back pieces, notice how the backs of your pieces match with the water front pieces, as shown below?
Well, copy those pieces that match and paste them over the top of the other pieces, as shown below. Don't use pieces if they have any really visible water.
Keep doing that until you've covered all the pieces, as shown below. Don't worry if there seems to be a problem, it will be fixed later.
Step 6:
Using the Square terrain tool, replace all the high dirt on the cliff with normal dirt, as shown below.
Step 7:
Now, there should be some blocky spots where the piece on the back didn't have a waterless piece to go in, to fix these spots, open the terrain pallete, scroll to the bottom and grab the edge bridge pieces. Put those below the spots with problems and they should blend it together as shown below.
Final Product
Now, to add cliffs on top of that, make it larger and then you can copy and paste the cliffs on top, make sure you copy and paste them, and not try to place them isometrically, and with this technique you can make mountainous landscapes like the one below.
