High Cliffs
High Cliffs are just a basic terrain in StarCraft, they are extremely simple to make and yet they look so good. This tutorial will show you how to make your average High Cliffs. Using SCM Draft 2, which can be found in the Programs section.
Step 1:
Create some water directly next to a cliff, as shown below.
Notice the terrain that is under the water as shown below.
Step 2:
Now find a piece of a cliff that matches up with it and copy it as shown below.
Step 3:
Now paste is along the cliff on top of the underwater terrain it matches up with as shown below and do it to the rest of the terrain.
If you can't get all the pieces from the cliff above, make another one somewhere else like the one below.
Step 4:
Next make a cliff like the one before, just make it on dirt using the Isometric tool as shown below.
Looking at another cliff next to water, you can see two pieces that blend perfectly like the ones below.
Now see the top piece of the picture above in the picture below?, We just need to replace that water with the right piece.
Step 5:
Now go back to your cliff you made on dirt, find the missing section and copy it, along with some dirt as shown below.
Step 6:
Paste the tiles along the bottom of the cliff where they go, as shown below.
Do this until you have finished the entire cliff, as shown below.
Fixing Up the Edges:
If you are not extending the cliff to the edge of the map you will still have sharp edges or 'blocks' like the ones below on the sides on your cliff.
Before we fix the edges we have to change the cliff, since it is much easier to put the correct edges if you have certain tiles, so there is another tile that can go above the selected one below.
Step 7:
Copy this tile from a cliff next to water, it goes above the other tile and is easier to blend into. So copy the tile below.
Step 8:
Paste the tile in the spot shown, the spot up 1 and 2 to the right, and paste half of it to the spot down 1 and 1 to the left as shown below.
Step 9:
Copy the edge of a cliff on the ground, make sure the tile to the side of the edge is the tile already used.
Step 10:
Paste that tile in the spot shown below.
Step 11:
Copy the top part of the cliff side and paste it in the areas shown below.
Step 12:
Repeat on the other side of the cliff and then zoom out to admire your work, if there are still blocks use sprites to cover them up if you cannot fix them.
That's how you make high cliffs!
Note: If you want to only have 2 layers, do step one then immediately go to step 4. If you want higher cliffs then just repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have one less layer than desired, then continue on to step 4.
